A broken leg, nine weeks testing and a red pen explosion!

Before I get into the details of my blog title, don't y'all just love the font on my new blog banner?! It is by the multi-talented Cara Carroll! I am obsessed with her lastest set Font Fun (volume 3)! The papers are by Jessica Weible and the lovely frame is by The Bubbly Blonde Teacher! So talented!

Remember my sadness over my tutoring job being over?

Well, God is good. REAL GOOD.
Here I was hoping to get called in a few times until the end of the year (June 5) so guess what happened last Friday while I was subbing? They informed me that I'd be working every day til the end. 8days! One of the 5th grade teachers I worked with broke her leg. She fainted and broke her leg as a result. Now while I am not happy that she broke it, I am GRATEFUL I get to work. This week is nine weeks testing so that's what we've been doing all week. I am bummed we have 4 and a half days left. I need my own class, dang it!
Is it crazy to say that even though I only started on Monday, I am already attached?
And I have two favorites.
My sister said I am not suppose to have favorites. Mothers. Mothers aren't suppose to have favorites. lol

Oh and this happened today.
You may have seen it on Instagram.

Leave it to a 5th grader to break a pen and get the ink all over, even his face. I'm pretty sure he rubbed it all over his hands on purpose. Sigh.

I also redesigned my giveaway button!

I know I am taking forever, but I promise to go live this weekend. I currently don't have internet at home so I have to find wifi and I have no time at school. I want to make sure the rafflecopters are accurate so I need to make time and get it done.
The giveaway is my goal this weekend!

I've been getting lots of comment spam as of late so I turned on the word verification. I hope that does not discourage you from commenting! :D

Happy Thursday, friends! :)

Mondays are hard...

Oh my goodness!
 So. Much. Paper. Work.
I don't think I have ever done so much paper work in my life! That and applying for a job has kept me from blogging. I won't bore you with the details because the only thing worse than doing paper work is reading about paper work. HA!

And because Mondays are hard...

So today marked my official last day as an SSI tutor for fifth grade and I am sad. I'm happy all the PW is done but that also means I no longer get to meet with my kiddos. :(
I'm still on the sub list and we've got 11 more days of school left. I'm hoping I get called in a few times until then.
I know I only worked with them since January but that was more than enough time for me to get attached. I even got to chaperone their trip to Sea World. We had a blast!

I ran into a friend (from another school) who was there with her 3rd grade class. You should have seen the disgusted look on her face when I told her I was actually looking forward to the trip. lol
The two-hour bus ride with 50+ rowdy, students not so much, but I love my kiddos and I have always enjoyed Sea World.

I made my kiddos a little end of year treat to beat this cuh-razy Texas heat.  It was 100 degrees today. Yuck.

I printed the tags in black and white and added color by hand.

I wanted to save ink and I loved how they turned out!

I also baked a little treat for the 5th grade teachers I work with.

Not to toot my own horn but toot toot! It was delish! I wish I could send y'all a piece! :)

With all of the end of year craziness, I had to put my giveaway planning on hold. I didn't want to rush my first giveaway so I decided to put it on hold.

I have not forgotten about it!

I may not have blogged often but I have been Instagram-ing! It's a quick and easy way to share what's going on.
If you are not on Instagram, You. Are. Missing. Out.

Tomorrow is #TeacherTalkTuesday!

And before I go...

I'm praying hard for everyone in the path of these tornados.
Stay safe, friends!

Five for Friday!

It's Friday and it's May! Wow! This year is FLYING by!
I am linking up with Kacey on another Five for Friday!

 {1}
Nails

I love this new color!

 {2}
 Clothespins

And speaking of nails, check out my newest creation. I'd seen glittery clothespins on Pinterest and thought, "I can do that!" BUT I wanted the glitter and no mess. The other day as I was looking through my nail polishes trying to decide on a color I got an idea!

2-3 coats of nail polish + 2 coats of glitter + 1 coat of  a clear top coat = Fabulousness!
No mess and the nail poilsh brush is the perfect size!

I LOVE how they turned out!
I made about 70 of them, now all I have to do is glue a thumb tack to the back and they'll be ready to display student work!

{3}
Dove's Dry Shampoo

When I don't wash my hair everyday, the first thing to get nasty are my bangs. Nothing can ruin my day more than yucky bangs. But yucky bangs no more thanks to Dove's dry shampoo! And it smells uh-mazing!
I highly recommend it. :)

I'm going to be an aunt!

Instagram fun and a Context Clues freebie!

What did y'all think of #TeacherTalkTuesday? I had lots of fun looking at all the pictures and liking like crazy! If you are not on Instagram you should totally join!

You can find me here:

Search TheTeacherDiaries on the app :)

I want to share with you a little creation I've been using to help my kiddos with context clues.

Right now I am working with those that did not pass the STAAR the first time around. I want them to be able to identify the clues within the reading passages and see how said clues will help them when they come across a word they don't know.

And because I love you. you can snag them for FREE here!

You can also use them as part of a bulletin board display! :)

I reviewed them and then left them on the table in case they needed to see them again.  I also had some big magnifying glasses out for them to use BUT I left them at school and didn't take a picture.
I will get better at taking pictures, I promise.

And COMING SOON...

Hope you're enjoying your Tuesday Night! :)

I'm off to take one last peek at #TeacherTalkTuesday!

Instagram Crazy!

I am still here y'all and I am back today to join What the Teacher Wants and Apples and ABC's as they host this linky to introduce #TeacherTalkTuesdays on Instagram! I have been on Instagram for a good while but mostly used it to make my pictures pretty so I could post them on FB or Twitter. Ha!

But now I am super excited for this!

Here is a little Instagram 101:
*It is like Facebook, but with only pictures (used mostly on smart phones)
*You can make your profile private if you want
*You can make write a caption under your picture and comment or like photos

I haven't figured out how to make a new account on my phone so my personal account will now become TheTeacherDiaries

My account is currently private but if you'd like to follow, I will happily accept you! :)

Blog Makeover!

Short and sweet today. :)
I gave my blog a fabulous, little makeover! I'd been wanting to make it over myself but I had no idea how. When I googled, I found some tutorials but I found them very hard to follow. Some had 864, 906 steps and I usually gave up by step 5. Too complicated.
Until I saw Jessica from Mrs. Stanford's Class had a blogging 101 tutorial series. SO EASY TO FOLLOW! Like ridiculously easy!

I have media buttons now and I am loving my new blog button!

Thank you, Mrs. Stanford!
Thank you.  :)

If you just started a blog or want to give yours a little face-lift, check out her blogging 101 series.

I cannot believe tomorrow is Friday. I thought STAAR testing would drag this week out but it did quite the opposite!

Let's Get Acquainted and Currently!

Another fun linky from Mrs. Reed at Flying into First Grade!

This week is a favorites survey so here are a few of my favorites!

Favorite places to shop:

 :D

Favorite TV Shows:

Favorite Snack:

Oh my goodness, these SO are good!

Favorite Sweet Treat:

HEB's Creamy Creations Dulce de Leche Ice Cream

There are no words to describe how GOOD this is!!

Favorite Scents:

Pure has a sweet, clean smell.

SJP NYC by Sarah Jessica Parker smells like strawberries!

Favorite Hair Product:

Aquage Uplifting Foam

I have to tell you about Aquage because this stuff is AMAZING! I have thin hair and when I wear it straight (I have wavy hair) it just falls flat. Yuck! But not with Aquage! It gives my hair serious volume. No other product has done this for my hair. It's expensive but worth every penny!

Time for April's currently! (April already?!)

 LISTENING:

LOVING:

The 5th graders I tutor will take the STAAR test tomorrow. I wanted to give them a little treat and encourage them to do their best. They were a hit! They're nervous and this calmed their nerves a bit. One group even started calling me 'Miss Smartie Pants'! Ha! You can read about them here.

 THINKING:

My BFF, Lucy, is getting her gallbladder removed as I write this. I'm not worried, I know she's in God's hands and He's got this. I'm just waiting to hear from her how it went.

WANTING:

I am a bit obsessed with dinosaurs! I've seen this move 465, 867 times and I cannot wait to see it in 3D! It'll be the first movie I see in 3D! Sad, I know. :)

NEEDING
I need a trim but I don't want to do it myself or I'll end up with bangs like this...
ADVICE
I haven't been blogging or selling for very long so I don't feel like I have much advice to offer as I am still learning. I spent months visiting blogs, grabbing freebies here and there. I thought about starting a blog of my own and selling on TpT but I was plagued with every beginner's questions: Will anyone read? Will anyone buy? I can now answer YES! You never know how a simple activity or product will bless someone or 20 little someones. So if you're thinking about starting a blog or selling on TpT, my advice (and Nike's) is
Just Do It!

There's a wonderful community of educators that are more than happy to help.

Mrs. Stanford from Mrs. Stanford's Class is a perfect example. She is having a blogging 101 tutorial series right now!

Be sure to link up with Farley and Mrs. Reed!
I'm off to read on how to cutify my blog! :D
